345x187 Large Vintage Bessarabian Handwoven Wool Rug – Floral Design
A beautiful large vintage Bessarabian rug, handwoven in wool and dating approximately to the mid-20th century (circa 1940s–1960s). The rug features a striking floral composition on a deep black ground, with two large bouquets of vivid pink, crimson, coral, and red flowers, surrounded by an elaborate ornamental border of scrolling foliage, smaller blossoms, and delicate floral motifs.
The color palette is particularly attractive, combining rich red tones with muted turquoise, teal, blue-green, and coral accents. The colors have developed a soft, naturally faded patina over time, adding to the character and authenticity of this vintage textile.
Originally used as a decorative wall hanging, the rug retains hanging loops/attachments on the reverse, making it especially suitable for display as a textile or tapestry. It can also be used as a floor rug, adding a distinctive traditional accent to an interior.
Condition: good vintage condition for its age, with few age-related imperfections, little holes and signs of use, consistent with a handmade textile of this period. No major damage is apparent. The natural variations in the weaving and the gentle fading of the colors contribute to its vintage charm.
A particularly decorative example of traditional Bessarabian folk weaving, with an elegant floral design, beautiful aged colors, and excellent decorative presence.
